So, Micah and I live near the great city of San Francisco. We often take little day trips to the city to visit family or do something fun for the day. On this particular occasion, my little brother and his girl were visiting from Maui so we decided to spend a little time in the city. So, if you’re out and about in SF, here are a few ideas to include in a day trip.

Normally, this is an extremely overcrowded tourist hot spot – and it really doesn’t matter what time of day, day of the week, or time of year you go – it’s popular and always packed. But hey, brother had a hankering for clam chowder so we met up at a little Boudin shop to get a bread bowl! I just want to state for the record what a waste it is to order your chowder in a bread bowl. I wonder what the piles of uneaten bread amass to anyway? Does anyone really ever finish one? And if you do, you deserve a medal. Anyway, Boudin’s chowder is okay – not the best I’ve had but good enough to satisfy one’s craving.
Zombies you say? Yes. Zombies in 7D. Shooting zombies in 7D! A fun little interactive game down at the Wharf. I was a little nervous I would get motion sick on this but it turned out to be okay. I killed a lot of zombies. In fact, we all did. We placed in the top 5 of the whole group! If the zombie Apocalypse ever happens, you know where to go. We got your back. It’s $10 per person for this “ride” – so it’s a little pricey but hey, you get some good memories right?
Finally, before leaving the Pier, we bid adieu to the stinky, barking sea lions. A place to view nature colliding with the city. This is an extremely popular attraction with hoards of tourists lined up to get a peek and take a photo.

Urban Putt! What a great place to hang with friends. A small indoor miniature golf place located at 1096 S. Van Ness in the Mission District. They are open at 11:00 a.m. on weekends, and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays. My brother-in-law (who lives in the city) told us about this place. I must say it’s pretty cool and very well designed for the most part. Very interesting designs at the holes and they have a little bar with small plates you can order like fried green olives stuffed with goat cheese and pretzels, or you can order full meals at the restaurant on the second floor after 5:30 p.m. Unfortunately, you can’t golf and eat/drink at the same time, as of right now at least.
I’d say my least favorite hole was the glow in the dark one…it was kind of hard to see what you were doing in there. But some of the other holes were quite inventive. You will just have to check it out for yourself! It’s also a family-friendly destination early in the day, and pricing is $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for kids (note that kids are only allowed until 8:00 p.m.).

A cool way to end the day is at Velvet Cantina, located at 3349 23rd Street, not too far from Urban Putt (within walking distance). They make excellent margaritas and delicious food. I ordered the avocado cactus enchiladas and they were so very scrumptious! They were filled with grilled nopales, chayote, potatoes, slices of avocado, jalapeno cream sauce, pepper jack cheese, and cilantro pesto, and served with a side of rice and beans. I am not too sure what everyone else got but I know husband got the carnitas. Too many margaritas definitely hinders your memory. Next time I go back, because there will be a next time, I’d love to try the mushroom empanadas or the veggie sopes! This place is only open for dinner so plan accordingly!
