About Moani & Appetites Abroad

Hey everyone! Welcome to my world.

I’m Moani – a die-hard foodie, wine and beer enthusiast, and am always in the process of planning my next trip.

I was born and raised on the little island of Maui in Hawaii, where I developed a passion for travel at an early age. After watching visitors enjoy travels to my home, a strong desire was forged within me to venture out into the world and collect my own experiences.

These days, you can find me traveling all across the world to eat, drink, and see this beautiful planet with my own two eyes.

  • Forever making sure the camera eats first
  • Traveling in between my 9-5
  • 10 countries, 12 states, and counting

A little more about me

  • I currently reside in the East Bay Area of Northern California with my husband and a very senior dog.
  • I have a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and currently work full time in the IT industry.
  • The first countries I visited were technically Canada and Mexico when I was a kid (back before you needed a passport for both), but I count Paris, France as my first real international adventure.
  • Even though I love visiting new destinations, country counting is not a priority and I am more than happy to return to a city, state, or country that I love.
  • I very much enjoy spending time at home “rotting” on the couch (as the kids say these days) with a glass of wine and watching Netflix just as much as I love my adventures!

Where i’ve Been and where I’m going

While I was bitten by the travel bug at a young age, I didn’t really start traveling until my late twenties after my husband and I got married. Hell, I didn’t even have my first passport until I was 31! But, that’s proof that you can start traveling whenever you’re ready (even though my advice is to go now and do all the things before you can’t).

Since I started spreading my travel wings, my husband and I have traversed the USA and Canada, and chilled out in island locales like Jamaica and multiple islands in my home state.

We also love traveling to Europe where I’ve experienced my most favorite places on earth like Basque Country in Spain, IcelandEnglandFrance, and Italy.

My husband and I are also avid NASCAR fans and one of our goals is to visit all of the raceways across the U.S. Because I have so much free time on my hands (wink wink), I started a second travel blog called Trackside Travelers to document our adventures in the world of racing. Check it out if you’re a motorsports fan too!

I like to eat…

In all my travels, I discovered just how much I love to eat (maybe a little too much), and believe that food is the gateway to truly experiencing a destination! When I think back on all my favorite travel moments, many of them have occurred while enjoying a good meal or sipping on that perfect glass of wine.

Out of my love for food and travel, This blog was born.

Once I started traveling more, I realized that sharing my experiences and helping others plan to see what the world has to offer was a calling I just had to fulfill – so here I am!

While a lot of my posts and articles on this site are food-centric, I do also share a lot about non-food-related activities. Everything in life is about balance and moderation, and that certainly applies to travel too.

Helping You to Travel

My main goal for this blog is to not only share my own adventures, but to share them in a way that’s helpful to others. I’d love to inspire YOU to plan your very own trips, whether mirroring my itineraries or simply taking inspiration to build out your own journeys.

I do always enjoy getting comments and emails from readers about my resources that have helped them, and I am always here to answer any questions! Shoot me an email or drop a comment on any of my posts and I promise you’ll get a response from me personally.

Thanks for stopping by and happy traveling!
