Where to Stay in Lodi: Wine & Roses Hotel (Appellation Lodi)

A fairy-tale land in the middle of Lodi wine country? It definitely feels like it! A surprising little haven tucked away in this relatively underrated wine town, the Wine & Roses Hotel is a top choice for any stay in Lodi.

We were celebrating our 6-year wedding anniversary and I wanted to do something special to celebrate without having to travel far. I had been wanting to check out the Lodi wine region, and being that it’s less than an hour’s drive away from where we live in the East Bay Area, it was the perfect distance!

After some research, the Wine & Roses hotel stood out to me as being a special little spot to celebrate our anniversary. So, we booked it for one night and planned our little weekend getaway to Lodi!

Checking In

Before checking in, we had brunch at the hotel restaurant, which you can read more about below! Food always seems to come first in our lives.

With our bellies full and happy, we waltzed over to the hotel office where we were able to get an early check-in to our room. We really do have the best of luck with the early check-ins. It never hurts to ask if they have something available! This was awesome because it allowed us to get settled and head out for our wine tastings without having to worry about checking in later in the afternoon or evening.

During the check-in process, they also asked us if we were celebrating anything special during our stay, which of course I replied that it was our 6-year anniversary, not thinking anything of it. And wouldn’t you know, they sent a bottle of wine to our room later that day! It was there waiting for us when we returned from our afternoon of wine tasting with a sweet card.

These little gestures are what win people like me over (Free wine – hell yes! But also, treating their guests right by going that extra mile). I’ll definitely be back in the future thanks to their hospitality!

Our Room

Our room was quite impressive! We were told we were given one of the recently-updated King Rooms, located at the back of the hotel property, so I can’t attest to the quality of the other (possibly older) hotel rooms. If you can, ask for one of the updated rooms upon check in. You will be glad you did! We were located in Room 64 for reference.

All of the room photos on the hotel website look perfectly attractive. Check them out here!

Our room was very spacious with high ceilings, nice flooring, modern décor, and a lovely king-sized bed. High ceilings in a hotel is a rather rare thing I’ve seen, so it made everything feel extra roomy.

These King Rooms come with giant balconies as well! We didn’t spend any time out here as we were only here one night, but I can see it being a nice spot to enjoy your morning coffee, or even an evening glass of wine after you settle in from a day of wine tasting.

Again, very modern decor in the hotel which feels just very chic. Perfect for our tastes.

Jameson not included!

Bathrooms

Our bathroom was also good-sized, clean, and updated, and the shower had great water pressure!

The toiletries that were available in the hotel were Aveda brand, though we didn’t end up using any of them, except for the hand soap of course.

Onsite Restaurant

Definitely one of the biggest perks of Wine & Roses is their onsite restaurant. When we visited, it was the Towne House Restaurant but they have since rebranded under Chef Charlie Palmer as Americana House. On weekends, you can get brunch and elegant dinners on Monday through Thursday nights.

We actually had plans to check out a cheaper option (a local food truck) for lunch on the day we checked in, but they weren’t around that weekend. Lucky ducks for us (maybe not our wallets), as we got to experience deliciousness at the hotel!

Wine & Roses

Service: Our server was so pleasant and respectful. It gave me all the fancy feels with how attentive and polite she was!

The Food: We only had the pleasure of dining here for brunch, but I would love to come back for dinner and dessert – and even try out some of their evening cocktails. The food was delicious, innovative, and plated beautifully!

We started off with the market fish crudo with jalapeño vinaigrette, jicama, and fried plantains. I didn’t get too much of the jalapeño flavor, but it was a refreshing bite to start off our meal. I would have liked for there to be a little more of the actual fish for the price though. The fried plantain chips were delicious! I kept the remainder of them to eat with my main dish.

My brunch entrée was the smoked salmon scramble which was so very tasty – smoked salmon atop exceptionally fluffy eggs (scrambled with cream cheese) and crispy hash browns, garnished with crème fraiche, caviar and scallion oil. I savored every bite and I was stuffed!

That cream cheese in the eggs really made this dish stand out (who knew?!), and the smoked salmon was on point (not overly fishy). Very well put together brunch dish.

My husband ordered the house-made corned beef hash (one of his usual favorite dishes), topped with poached eggs and a charred chili chimichurri. They were also gracious to accommodate his request of no potatoes (that keto life). Dare I say that this corned beef hash now has the highest honor in Micah’s book of being THE best he’s ever had!

And of course a glass of bubbles for me (Happy Anniversary!).

Hotel Grounds

The grounds at the Wine & Roses are stunning! This is really what made me feel like I was in a little fairy-tale land – or perhaps wandering through a secret garden. I can see why this is also a popular space for weddings. A beautiful backdrop!

Just a note, they do have several birds (parrots, macaws, cockatiels, etc.) on the property (in enclosures). I love birds – they are probably my favorite animal species. I enjoyed conversing with them (yes, call me the bird whisperer), but I just wanted to make a note as some people may be bothered by the whole caged bird thing (admittedly, not my favorite thing either).

Anyway, back to the beautiful property where my photos simply do not even do it justice!

Important Details & Extras

Location

Address: 2505 W. Turner Road, Lodi, CA
Phone: (209) 334-6988
Website: https://www.appellationhotels.com/hotels/california-lodi/

Note: Downtown Lodi is easily accessible by car, or by Uber if you don’t want to make the short drive to town yourself (I suggest this so you can have a cocktail or two with dinner!)

Alternative Dining

If you are looking for a nearby alternative to the Towne House Restaurant, check out the Towne Corner Café & Market on the hotel property, preparing a more casual menu of seasonal and sustainable salads, sandwiches, and breakfast/lunch dishes to eat in the café or to go.

Daily Resort Fee = $27.00

I am seeing many more hotels charge a “resort” or “amenity” fee as of late. This one does come with some decent perks, considering a lot of hotels charge way too much for in-room items such as bottled water, and you get some discounted wine tasting at the Lodi Wine & Visitors Center on the property! We didn’t take advantage of that offer as it didn’t fit into our schedule unfortunately, but it’s good to know for next time.

Here’s what’s included with the daily fee: daily coffee service at Maison Lodi (6:00–10:00 AM), access to the fitness center, use of the pool and jacuzzi (with towel service), high-speed WiFi, premium cable, and complimentary water coffee and tea.

Pool & Fitness Center

As mentioned above, access to the pools and fitness center are included in the daily resort fee. I didn’t wander around the fitness center but it is located right next to the pool area.

The pool is a decent size and has plenty of space for lounging. When I went on my little self-guided photo tour in the morning, it was pretty quiet around the pool area, with only one couple enjoying peace and quiet in the hot tub (minus me walking around snapping random photos of course).

In summary, the Wine & Roses Hotel in Lodi is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a little wine country escape in Lodi!

📍Vecina - Phoenix, AZ Found my favorite restauran 📍Vecina - Phoenix, AZ

Found my favorite restaurant in Phoenix!

This spot is a serious gem. Everything we ate was expertly crafted with incredible, bold flavors!

If I could return and eat one dish over and over again, it would be the short rib with white bean puree and probably the best flour tortilla I've ever had. 10/10, no notes.

A close second - the gambas al ajillo. The shrimp were bathed in a spicy paprika garlic butter that you'll want to soak up every last bit of with their delicious bread.

I'm already planning to visit Phoenix next year for spring training mostly because I want to eat here again!

🇮🇸 Iceland foodie experiences not to miss!!! Thes 🇮🇸 Iceland foodie experiences not to miss!!!

These are all of my favorite Iceland food & drink experiences. Save this for your trip to Iceland!

The food in Iceland kind of blew me away. I know a lot of people travel to Iceland for the scenery (because it's absolutely incredible), but I do think you should try and incorporate some of these food experiences too.

Iceland may not be the most budget friendly when it comes to eating out, but the food is definitely worth the splurge in my opinion.

What do you think you would add to your itinerary?

🇮🇸 Day 6 & 7 of a one-week Iceland itinerary! Fin 🇮🇸 Day 6 & 7 of a one-week Iceland itinerary!

Finishing up my little Iceland itinerary series, this is how we spent our final two days in the country.

We drove from Vik on the south coast and did the popular Golden Circle, making stops at Kerid Crater, Friðheimar Tomato farm, Gullfoss, and Thingvellir National Park. In between all that, I got to pet and feed Icelandic horses and had some of the best ice cream ever at a dairy farm.

The Golden Circle was probably the most crowded of all the routes we did in Iceland, probably because it's the easiest day trip from Reykjavik. Still loved every moment though!

Our last dinner was at Forrettabarinn aka The Appetizer Bar, where dishes are small plates, encouraging you to try lots of different items (even horse 😳). All of the food was delicious, as it was everywhere we went in Iceland.

We had a leisurely final day, strolling around Reykjavik looking for souvenirs and had a delicious final Icelandic lunch (couldn't resist one more round of Plokkfiskur.

And that's the end of our magical adventure to probably my favorite place in the world. I can't wait to be back!

This was probably my favorite day of our week in Iceland. Seeing the landscape of the South Coast is something else, from canyons and waterfalls to moss-covered lava fields and even a glacier lake! Incredible is all I can say.

We ended our day back in Vik to watch the sunset and chowed down on black crust pizza 🍕

Everything I ate and drank in Iceland - Part 2! I Everything I ate and drank in Iceland - Part 2!

I ate so many different things in Iceland, I needed to break it up in three parts 😂

Iceland has such a varied food scene, from international dishes to Icelandic specialties like plokkfiskur (kind of like a fish pie/casserole), which was absolutely delicious.

And those cinnamon rolls...I am still dreaming about them!

Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸 Our third day in Iceland was Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸

Our third day in Iceland was a day trip to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula - aka "Iceland in Miniature." It was very windy and cold here but much less busy than the routes of the South Coast! We saw such a variety of landscapes on the peninsula, though I wish we would have had a little bit more daylight to add more stops.

Back in Reykjavik for the evening, we had dinner and then went on a successful Northern Lights chase!

It was a long day but awesome!
