Sunset at the Palms in Negril – A Jamaican Gem of a Hotel

This post may contain affiliate links wherein I earn a small commission if you purchase or subscribe to a product from one of my links (at no extra cost to you!). Read my full Privacy Policy here.

Set in a lush jungle amongst palm trees and tropical foliage, you’ll find this little gem of a place called Sunset at the Palms. The Caribbean is a region filled with all-inclusive resorts to take your pick from, but Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Jamaica provides you with a unique respite that you will certainly treasure for years to come.

We traveled to Jamaica to celebrate my husband’s birthday, along with the birthday of one of our friends, and the consensus for a destination was that it would need to be somewhere sunny and offering relaxation. After much research, we chose to stay in the laid-back town of Negril, Jamaica (aka “The Capital of Casual”). The unique accommodations and tranquil vibe of Sunset at the Palms had us sold on a place to stay!

If you’re looking for some insight on whether Sunset at the Palms is the right place for your Caribbean getaway, you’ve come to the right place! I hope this in-depth review on our stay will provide you with what you are looking for.

Note: Sunset at the Palms is an adults-only resort – no kiddos allowed!

Club MoBay Upon Arrival

Booking rooms with Sunset at the Palms includes the Club MoBay VIP Experience at the Montego Bay Airport when you arrive.

So, what is Club MoBay? Basically, you get a personal concierge that greets you when you get off the plane and escorts you on the fast track through customs.

Club MoBay is 100% worth it – even if you have to pay for the service separately. We skipped a lengthy line, which as you can imagine would be quite an unpleasant wait in the heat and humidity of Jamaica! Sunset at the Palms definitely knows how to help its guests start their vacations off just right by including this service in their booking packages. VIP Status!

Once you breeze through customs, you are then escorted through to the Club MoBay lounge. This is an area condensed with other arrival areas that offer a similar experience (such as if you book with Sandals resorts). They welcome you with snacks, a private bathroom, and your first rum punch (or two, because you know we had to take one for the road…). They make sure your transportation to your hotel is ready and waiting while you enjoy your refreshments, and then escort you to your transportation outside.

Value = $30.00 per person

Hotel Location

Sunset at the Palms is located in Negril, which is about an hour west of the Montego Bay Airport.

We booked our transportation through Island Transport and Tours (round trip cost = $145.00). We had a nice private van each way with cold Red Stripes and bottled water waiting in the cooler. The drivers were great, especially our driver on the way back to the airport (Clyde aka “Thunder”). We really loved having conversations with our drivers and guides on this trip. Jamaicans are so personable and welcoming and love to talk openly about their culture and island way of living.

Why Negril?

We chose to stay in Negril for it’s laid–back, beachy vibe. Sunset at the Palms is located in the Bloody Bay area, and Negril’s famous 7 Mile Beach is just a short car ride away. Another selling point in staying on the west side of the island was the chance to experience one of Negril’s beautiful sunsets. Although it was a little cloudy many of the days we were there, we did get a great sunset on our last night in Negril. Definitely worth it.

Checking In

Upon arrival to the resort, we were seated at one of the check-in desks and brought a refreshing rum punch. Of course I never refuse a free rum punch. And yes, that may have been my third one since getting off the plane. Tropical vacay demands it!

We were given wristbands to wear for the duration of our stay so that the resort recognized us as guests with access to all its amenities (i.e. unlimited drinks at the bar and food/drinks at the resort’s beach). One of the attendants then escorted us and our luggage to our tree house accommodations.

Tree House Rooms

Here’s one of those areas where SATP really stands out from the rest of the all-inclusive accommodations: luxury tree-house rooms. Need I say more? There really was no turning back as soon as we saw photos of where we would be staying.

There are two levels of accommodation:

  1. Tree Top Deluxe (our room), which is one building split into two rooms. It’s divided by the front porch area, so you aren’t actually sharing a wall with the other unit. We never heard any of the other guests during our stay and it felt very private.
  2. Tree Top Suites, which are suitable for up to four guests rather than two. They also come with two single day beds in addition to the king. It is also much larger in both square footage and porch space.

Our Room

Our bed was a king size (as all beds on the property are) and pretty comfy. No complaints after a week of sleeping in one! What made sleeping here especially relaxing were the tree frog sounds at night. Some people might not like them, but we found them extremely soothing!

beds

The rooms come air conditioned, which is a total necessity in Jamaica. The climate there is very warm and extremely humid. I don’t think I would have slept well if it wasn’t for that AC! One thing to note, due to the humidity, it can cause a condensation problem with the AC units. Ours dripped on the floor the whole time, so I kept a towel on the floor so we wouldn’t accidentally slip. Our friends’ room also had the same issue.

French Doors

The day bed on the private porch was one of my favorite things about the room. I took a few naps out here and it was so peaceful and relaxing! I am glad that our tree house was towards the edge of the property and facing away from the walkway, as it made it more private. We stayed in Room 708 if you’re interested in napping in privacy.

Mini fridges are in the rooms and they come stocked with two Red Stripes, two light Red Stripes, and water. This gets replenished each day! Also, if you’re celebrating an event, be sure to let the hotel know ahead of time! They will put a few special touches in your room. Towel swans anyone?

Bathrooms

The bathrooms were nice and updated. The one thing to note is that if you are shy about going to the bathroom, this might not be the place for you. The door is pretty much a wood screen that you can see right through…and hear everything of course! Otherwise, no complaints about the bathrooms.

Amazing Food & Drinks

Alright guys, this is my favorite part about our stay with SATP! The food!

As many resorts are in Jamaica, Sunset at the Palms is all-inclusive, which means that all your daily meals of breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your hotel rate, along with all beverages, whether alcoholic or not.

Reading through some of the online reviews of other resorts, it seemed like the resort food in Jamaica would be mediocre at best. Not at Sunset at the Palms. We were so impressed with almost everything we had there, and I looked forward to seeing what they would create each day!

The main dining area is called the Palm Grove Court, which features an open-air dining experience. This is where you’ll have all of your buffet meals, and the wait staff are always very attentive. They quick to clear your dirty plates, refill your water, and bring you whatever drink your heart desires!

Main buffet area with the hot foods

You could always count on them having fresh fruit, veggies, and cheese platters available for every meal.

All the dishes at the buffet are labeled so you know what you are eating. A little heads up for vegans – they do have vegan dishes at every meal and they will be sure to label them so!

Breakfast (7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.)

Breakfasts were plentiful and always featured a local Jamaican dish. This is super important to me because if you don’t get a chance to get off your resort and experience the local food culture, you can find it here. When we talked with some of our tour guides, they said it was not very common to find Jamaican dishes at the all-inclusive resorts. I can’t attest to that being a fact as this is the only place I’ve stayed in Jamaica but it’s definitely something to consider.

I loved eating callaloo (which is actually the leafy part of the amaranth plant, similar to Swiss chard) in the mornings. The made-to-order omelettes were always delicious too – I had one every day! I don’t know what the magic is in Jamaica, or at Sunset at the Palms, but all the food was so fresh and flavorful. My breakfast plates look pretty similar here, but they always made sure to change up the sides every day. Sure they had potatoes – but one day it would be hash browns, the next curry potatoes, and so on. It made it very easy not to become bored with the food selections.

They also had a smoothie station where you could choose your own ingredients (fruits, spinach, different juices, coconut water, etc.).

If you want to keep it simple, they also have cereals, a different selection of pastries and muffins, and pancakes or waffles each day. For the meat eaters, you’ll always find a selection of breakfast meats, including bacon and/or sausage.

Lunch (12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

The staff sets up a new buffet for lunch each day and much like dinner, always featured several salads to choose from, fruits, cheeses, and a variety of hot dishes. We tried to sample the lunch buffet as often as possible just to try all the different foods, in combination with eating down at the beach grill on some days. It’s vacation right? Overindulgence just happens…

One of the delicious hot dishes we had was the jerk seafood, which included a variety of different seafood sauteed in a spicy jerk sauce. I also piled my plate up with curried vegetables, rice and peas, plantain au gratin, and another type of fish (can’t remember what the flavors were). Everything we had this day was very tasty.

Basically, I always ended up with a full plate full of salads, veggies, fruit, and some type of fish offering for the day. In Jamaica, the seafood tastes so fresh that it was hard to resist! And if you’re wondering, yes, there is plenty of meat as well for the carnivores.

They also do have a dessert buffet at every lunch! The chocolate pudding/cake with cherry sauce was fantastic.

One of my favorite lunch days served up a delicious pumpkin curry with tofu over rice, a potato and celery soup, and some fresh grilled snapper with a pineapple salsa.

Dinner – Theme Nights (7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)

Sunset at the Palms has a yearly event they call “Jamaica-rama” which runs May through October. However, when we were there in November, we got to experience this as well. Each night will feature a different cuisine theme:

Sundays: Mediterranean Night
Monday: Jamaica Night
Tuesday: Italian Night
Wednesday: BBQ Night
Thursday: Gala Night
Friday: Jamaica Night (round 2)
Saturday: Seafood Night

mediterranean night

Our first night at the resort was Mediterranean night. Some of my faves from that night were the roasted pumpkin and tomato salad, eggplant ratatouille and grilled snapper in pesto tomato sauce. I piled my plate with all the other salads too – pesto pasta and mixed veggies, green salad, a little bit of cheese and a roll.

The carnivores’ favorites of this night were the roasted lamb with gravy and the Italian style meatballs. They also had several different kebabs and paellas, although the gang thought they could have used a little extra seasoning on those latter two dishes.

All in all, it was such a great meal to kick off our time in Jamaica!

jamaica night

One of our favorites nights was Jamaica night because it gave us the chance to sample Jamaican cuisine. We had grilled plantains, escovitch fish (so delicious), ackee (a cooked fruit) and salt fish, rice and peas (actually beans) and grilled bammy (bread made from the cassava root).

Some notes about ackee: Though native to West Africa, ackee is the national fruit of Jamaica. It is important to know that ackee can be poisonous to us unless prepared properly. You must wait until the fruit pods turn red and open naturally. When cooked, it looks a bit like scrambled eggs and also has a similar texture. It’s pretty good, but I do prefer callaloo or cabbage with the salt fish over the ackee.

My travel mates also had the curried goat and oxtail that night and they said that they were some of the most tasty dishes of the whole trip.

bbq night

The BBQ night was probably my least favorite of the theme nights but that’s probably because I was not a big meat eater at the time. The shrimp were good though, and they had jerk mac and cheese. That is so totally not Jamaican but I was not complaining about mac and cheese with jerk sauce. It was a tasty cultural hybrid!

gala night

For Gala Night, I loaded my plate up with a bunch of salads (I love me some pesto pasta salad!), eggplant and zucchini, au gratin potatoes, and salmon. Okay, to be honest, I actually had two plates of food this night…I couldn’t help myself!

Negril

Nightly Menus

Each night, they’ll have the menus out for you to see what is in store for dinner at the entrance to the buffet area. I totally meant to photograph all of the theme night menus, but that just did not happen. However, here’s a little bit of what you can expect from the different nights.

The two nights that we did not get to experience were Italian Night (we ended up eating at the Lotus Leaf a la carte restaurant that night) and the Seafood Night (because we arrived on a Sunday and left Saturday morning), so I can’t speak to the quality of the dishes.

Dessert Tables

For lunch and dinner, you might find yourself wandering over to the dessert table. I mean, how could you not? The desserts were different every night and there was always wayyyyy too much to choose from. Danger zone if you have a sweet tooth!

Negril

The Lotus Leaf

Guests are able to dine at the onsite a la carte restaurant called The Lotus Leaf on certain nights of the week. Be sure to make your reservation for your spot BEFORE arriving to the hotel by emailing the concierge: satpguestservices@sunsetresortsjm.com. I read so many reviews where people didn’t realize this until they got there and the nights were all sold out.

You can dine here at no extra charge once during your stay, and I would definitely recommend this experience. The food was excellent and the ambiance was awesome. We chose to do this on Italian night as I wanted to experience the other theme nights a bit more than that one.

Also, be sure to take your reservation card with you to dinner. We were given them when we checked in but I either didn’t remember that (too many rum punches at that point) or they didn’t point it out and explain it (I am inclined to blame it on the rum punch). When we got back from our trip and I was unpacking everything, the res cards fell out of my welcome packet and I had one of those palm-to-face moments. I swear they thought we were trying to sneak into the a la carte dinners when they asked us for these mystery reservation cards. Lol.

There’s a set menu that you can order from that includes your choice of appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. Gourmet four-course meal people! Here’s what the menu looked like at the time of our stay:

Negril
Negril

We tried to diversify as much as possible so that we could each sample a little bit of what they had to offer that night.

Starters

To start, Micah had the Seafood Trio Appetizer:

  1. Smoked salmon roulade with capers and cream cheese topped with micro greens
  2. Marlin & spicy ackee dip with plaintain chips
  3. Shrimp ceviche with grilled pineapple and cocktail sauce

Everything was really good, but if I had to choose, I would definitely go with the fishcake over the seafood trio for flavor profile.

I had the roasted plantain and pumpkin chowder and the Sunset Fish Cake that was served with mango black bean salsa, ginger sweet and sour sauce, and sautéed sesame greens. Probably one of my favorite parts of the four course meal! You might think that the appetizers are small in portion size but believe me, they were just right. I did not walk away hungry from this meal at all.

To balance the meal out, Micah had the tropical salad with mixed greens, blue cheese, toasted nuts, cherry tomatoes, and mango. A nice little refreshing few bites before entrees.

entrees

My main course was this grilled snapper served atop a carrot ginger bisque with a side of grilled bammy. The fish and the bisque were really delicious. I could have been fine with only one piece of bammy bread as I was pretty stuffed at that point, but it’s a good addition to soak up the rest of the bisque!

Everyone else was super satisfied with their lamb chops served with whipped potatoes, veggies, and mint jelly. Mint jelly – what is this interesting creation anyway?

Dessert

For the dessert choices, we tried the chocolate mouse and the cheesecake. The chocolate mousse was very rich, and the cheesecake was a perfect small bite to end a great meal.

Dinner Notes

Special attire required: Resort wear (think button up shirt for men, khaki pants or shorts, smart casual shoes; sun dresses or skirts for ladies, or nice pants (no jeans)).

Pro-Tip: Head to the martini bar just outside the restaurant doors a little bit before your dinner reservation and listen to some music, grab a drink at the bar, and get nice and relaxed for your impending dining experience.

Chef’s Showcase Dinner

We chose to do this on the second Jamaica night as we had already experienced one Jamaica night. We were kind of sad about as they actually had some really delicious options at the buffet that night (because yes, we totally went to check that out after our dinner…not because we were still hungry, but because we didn’t want to miss out on anything special that evening).

The dining area for the Chef’s Showcase is located in a little spot beyond the pool area, where they have a private kitchen area and a romantic space all set up for you. You can sit and listen to the breeze making it’s way through the palm trees and hear the tree frogs serenading you (and possibly even jumping onto your table to see what’s for dinner). Top marks for ambiance!

Sunset at the Palms Negril

The start of your meal, your chefs will come out and introduce themselves, ask if anyone has any allergies to what they are cooking (because there is no set menu), and will begin preparing away.

Starters

Our first little appetizer was this delicious piece of moist fish served with a little bit of couscous and a tropical sauce (I’m going to say it was snapper as that was generally the most popular fish used in the dishes at the resort). This was definitely the best bite of the Chef’s Showcase in my opinion.

Negril appetizer

I can’t remember everything that was in the soup (I believe it was potato based), but it was really good even though lacked a little visual pizzazz. The salad was your average green salad.

Entrees

The entrees were just okay. Nothing super special. I definitely feel like we had better food from the buffet throughout our week there. That being said, the dishes are not always going to be the same so other guests will probably have something totally different.

Micah’s entree: Chicken roulade with gravy, rice and peas (beans), and assorted veggies. Because they said they were serving mashed sweet potatoes at the start of the meal, Micah asked for a substitute (food allergies).

Sunset at the Palms Negril

My entree: Because I wasn’t eating meat then, I also asked for a substitution and got this fish dish. It was good, but I’m not really sure what it was. Just kind of maybe a fish stir fry/stew type of meal with mashed sweet potatoes and a side of veggies.

Sunset at the Palms Negril
Dessert

For dessert, we had pineapple upside-down cake. Unfortunately, this was our least favorite dessert at the resort, but we are also not fans of cooked pineapple.

Negril

Special attire required: Resort wear (button up shirt for men, khaki pants or shorts, smart casual shoes; sun dresses or skirts for ladies, or nice pants (no jeans)).

Overall Impressions

All in all, I think the Chef’s Showcase excels in ambiance. Dining under the stars is definitely a great romantic atmosphere for dinner. However, I think they could improve on the creativity of the food offerings for most of the courses. Although, the meals are going to be different each time, so judging the experience based off of one meal isn’t totally fair.

I do also want to point out that we were super full after all the food we ate. Some people complained on reviews that they walked away hungry from this, which I don’t understand. However, that didn’t stop us from making a little stop at the buffet to mow down a plate full of scotch bonnet shrimp.

As with the Lotus Leaf, be sure to make your reservations with the concierge ahead of time and bring your reservation card to dinner!

The Bars

While SATP isn’t a huge resort, there were plenty of options to go to:

  • The pool bar (one stop shop for all your Bloody Mary and rum punch needs during the day)
  • Martini bar (perfect spot for an evening drink before dinner; often features live piano entertainment)
  • Beach bar
  • Coffee bar (had to throw that one in for good measure)

Kerry and Kirk were our favorite bartenders. Kerry is the sweetest and made us all feel so welcome, and Kirk can make a mean drink.

The Beach

Sunset at the Palms has a private beach located across the street from the resort, which was totally easy to get to within a few minutes’ walk. There’s a crossing guard that will make sure the roads are all clear so you have safe passage across.

The beach is monitored by resort staff to ensure that guests are comfortable and not bothered by people randomly walking up the beach. Although if you are down on the beach near the water, people will approach you. These are mainly vendors – people selling weed or trinkets, or handing out event flyers for the other areas of the beach.

Negril

Weather permitting, the beach is also an excellent place to catch the sunset. This is one of the main reasons why we wanted to stay on this side of the island.

Sunset at the Palms beach

Water sports are also available at the kiosk on the beach.

Beach Bar & Grill

At the beach bar, you can walk up and get your fill of as many rum punches or whatever delight you might want (I also recommend the “Yeah Mon”). And the beach grill serves up a limited menu (burgers, tacos, jerk chicken, etc.). This is perfect for beach days where you don’t want to walk across the street back to the resort!

On the right side of the beach you can also find The Office of Nature, which is a little food stand that serves up fresh lobster plates. We never got the chance to check it out, but it is highly rated by other reviewers.

Sunset at the Palms

We ate at the beach grill twice during our stay and I got the fish tacos both times which I thought were pretty tasty. Each time there was a different sauce/chutney to change it up.

Beach Bar
Fish tacos from the Beach Grill

Micah had to try the jerk chicken also!

Beach Bar
Jerk chicken with rice and “peas” from the Beach Grill

And jerk cheesy fries…kind of a Jamaican/American fusion going on there. I don’t know what it is about that jerk sauce, but it was so good on cheesy fries. Total guilty pleasure.

Burger with cheesy jerk fries and fish tacos from the Beach Grill

The Pool

Another one of my favorite things about staying here was the peace and quiet at the pool! Call me an old lady, but I hate it when people get rowdy at the pool. Since this is an adults-only resort, you don’t have to worry about a bunch of kids splashing in the pool, running around, or being too loud (sorry parents with kiddos!).

One of my requirements in looking for a hotel in Jamaica was that it had to have a swim-up pool bar. There was always a place for us to sit at the bar whenever we were at the pool since it was such a quiet place.

Important Pool Towel Notes

  1. There should be two towels waiting for you in our room upon arrival
  2. You cannot get a new pool towel without bringing your old one with you. They keep them locked up and will make you go retrieve your old one!

Entertainment & Activities

Entertainment at SATP is very low key – think live reggae music by the pool or live piano music in the martini bar. You won’t find any foam pool parties here! This place is for R & R versus the party scene.

As far as activities go, you can check out the water sports offerings down at the beach, take a nature walk around the property with Shorty (the property’s resident gardener), and of course, get off the resort and take in all the beauty Jamaica has to offer with a tour. We had a lot of fun with these two tours: this snorkel tour & this tour to YS Falls and the Pelican Bar.

The hotel concierge is available to make arrangements for tours for you. I had already pre-arranged our tours prior to arrival with other companies, but the hotel concierge can do that for you either ahead of time, or while you are at the property. Just shoot them an email and they will send you over tour options, or visit them at the concierge desk.

They also have a cooking class on select nights, movie nights, and beach BBQ’s (weather permitting).

Bug Spraying

This seems to be a major topic of discussion in the online reviews because they do spray for bugs here twice a day – once in the early morning and once in the afternoon. It kind of sounds like a loud propeller airplane for a few minutes and yes, the smell does find it’s way into your room so be sure to keep your windows and doors closed during this time. Because of the location (set back from the beach), it’s very tropical and bugs do love to live there.

Luckily for me, I don’t get bit by mosquitoes but it would be a good idea to pack your bug spray! There is a small gift shop on site that you can buy some from if you forget, but it will be much more expensive.

Other Hotel Info

Website: http://www.thepalmsjamaica.com/

Address: Norman Manley Blvd, Negril, Jamaica

WiFi: WiFi is complimentary for all SATP guess, although the connection can be a little spotty depending on which room you are in. We were in 708 and didn’t seem to struggle much. Our friends were in room 715 and they had a bit more issues. I think they actually upgraded the WiFi on the property just before we got there because that seemed to be a major pain point on the reviews we read. In all reality, when you are in this magical place, you won’t want to spend a lot of time on the internet anyway!

Amenities: They do have a gym on the property, as well as a spa if you are interested in getting a massage while there. We ended up in a yoga class one morning as one of the staff approached us on the beach and encouraged us to sign up. You might not feel like moving much during your vacation, but a little yoga was actually quite nice!

Tipping

Tipping is not required and is included in your “all-inclusive rate.” That being said, it is always nice to show your gratitude for those who really helped make your experience above and beyond. We gave a few of the staff a nice tip at the end of our stay as a thank you, and believe me, it is much appreciated by them. They do work so hard to make sure guests are happy and enjoy their stay. The Jamaican economy is not the greatest, so any little bit you can do to help someone out is a kind thing to do.

Booking

I like to use Hotels.com to book a lot of our hotel stays.

Sunset at the Palms in Negril

And that’s a wrap! If you can’t already tell, we 100% loved our stay with Sunset at the Palms and would definitely return in the future! The staff was so warm and welcoming, the food was amazing, and the whole experience was just so relaxing.

If you end up staying at Sunset at the Palms for your Jamaica vacation, please let us know how you liked it!

Thank you so much for the detailed review! After agonizing over where we would spend our honeymoon I found this post and it totally sold us!

We booked a deluxe treehouse room 7/10-7/18/21 and hopefully its everything you experienced! We’re especially looking forward to kayaking and snorkeling, possibly doing a catamaran trip and well.

I did have a question for you. Do you know if the concierge can or will set up some stuff for honeymooners? I’m hoping that when I reach out to them I’ll be able to tell them it’s our honeymoon and maybe with some extra tipping we’re shown a little more “island love”.

Anyway, thanks again for convincing us that this is where we wanted to go!

Jon, so glad you were able to find my post helpful! I hope you have the same experience on your honeymoon as we did. It is such a relaxing place to be and truly a unique resort that will give you an intimate experience compared to bigger hotels in the area. I long to go back again, and I don’t often tend to return to the same place twice.

The concerige for sure should be able to set you up with special things for your honeymoon. It was my husband’s birthday when we went and they made sure to acknowledge that when we were there. I just emailed them ahead of time of course to let them know what we were celebrating.

Be sure to check out Juju Tours also. They do a lot in the Negril area. Ask for Richie if he’s still there! He was an awesome tour guide and took us on a snorkeling trip locally, and to an authentic local Jamaican place for breakfast.

Best wishes to you, safe travels, and congratulations! Let me know if you any more questions ☺️

      Hi Jon,
I found Monani’s article after coming back from The Sunset At The Palms, ends up we stayed in almost the same room if memory serves. Anyway, I just wanted to comment that not only is her information the most in depth about that location but it more that accurate. My wife and I visited The Sunset At The Palms for our 25th wedding anniversary. When I was reading Monani’s article I felt like I was reliving our vacation. Congratulations on your wedding, be ready to enjoy your honeymoon, that place will live up to your dreams!

Peace and Love from Montreal, Quebec.

What a great read. We love SATP resort and headed back the first week of December. Our third stay!!! I don’t often stay at the same resort or city, but Negril and Sunset at The Palms works hard to make your vacation memorable.

Thanks for the kind words Michael! We truly had a memorable experience at SATP and I just had to share with the world! We would definitely go back also. I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip 🙂

So enjoyed reading and looking at all the fabulous pictures on this wonderful review. We are booked to go 14/10/2019 for 14 nights, so excited and counting down, we booked before we found your review, so even more reassuring now we have definitely booked at the right place in Jamaica. So thank you. Hope you don’t mind me asking but we have requested tree house 405, are these in a quite location?

Hi Kim! So glad you found my review and best wishes on your upcoming trip! I can’t quite recall the location of all the room numbers. We were in the 700’s which were in a relatively quiet location away from the road but I can’t speak to the 400’s. I’d definitely contact the concierge there to double check, though I feel like most of the resort was relatively quiet while we were there. Safe travels!

Oddly enough, I was there about the time this was published. Couldn’t see this before, but I’m headed back on May 5th.
For me, this is the best bit of writing that echos my reasons for saying what a special place it is.
No one else is trying to do what they do. All the rest of the all-inclusive resorts are just big beach hotels with a few hundred rooms.
Jamaica has another equally beautiful natural environment beyond the beach. We get that too at Sunset.
    Thanks for your words.

Thank you David! I am in agreement with you 100%. We picked SATP because of how unique it was and we enjoyed the laid back vibe so much more than a pristine and boring all-inclusive. And the food…part of what drew me there in the first place! I’m from Hawaii originally and the property really made me feel like I was “at home” with its vibe. I’m glad I was able to echo your sentiments, and enjoy your trip back!

I loved reading your post about your experience! My husband and I stayed at SATP in February 2018 and had a very similar (and amazing) week there. We are actually going back for our anniversary in a few weeks and reading your detailed post has made me even more excited to be back! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Aww that’s so great, Sheena! I love to hear about everyone else’s experiences to see how they compare. If we are ever back in Jamaica, I would have a hard time staying anywhere else too! I’m still dreaming about all the yummy food we had there.

The hotel looks so cute, love the treehouse idea. I’ve always wanted to visit here, so you’ve made me want to go even more! The beaches look so quiet here! Xx

It is such a unique hotel. I highly recommend it over those large resorts where you feel like herded cattle! Lol. And Jamaica far exceeded our expectations.

This is one of the best detailed articles I’ve read on the internet about SATP (Sunset at the Palms). I wish I would have found it before my wife and I traveled there at the beginning of May, 2018. Reading your article I felt as though your experience and ours were one and the same. Your detailed description of events along with your beautiful photos paint a fantastic picture of what one might expect. We also had a fantastic experience there as well, we did however move once from room #619 to #709 to get away from the road noise and loud music coming from The Rui late at night, which is across the street. This was our second trip to Negril, first to SATP. We are now so spoiled by this vacation it will be hard to go anywhere else!

Thanks so much for the compliment Jeff! I wish I would have written the article sooner! My sole purpose was to give others a better overview than what I could also find online in my research before we went. This is all the info that I would want to know myself of course and I hope it can be useful for others. Glad you enjoyed SATP as much as we did! Sounds like if you were in 709, you were right next door to where we stayed in 708! Nice and quiet on that end of the property. I, too, will have a hard time staying anywhere else in Jamaica!

Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸 Our third day in Iceland was Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸

Our third day in Iceland was a day trip to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula - aka "Iceland in Miniature." It was very windy and cold here but much less busy than the routes of the South Coast! We saw such a variety of landscapes on the peninsula, though I wish we would have had a little bit more daylight to add more stops.

Back in Reykjavik for the evening, we had dinner and then went on a successful Northern Lights chase!

It was a long day but awesome!

Year #42 In honor of my birthday today, here's a Year #42

In honor of my birthday today, here's a little something silly: my foodie version of the "Unfortunately, I do love" trend (in typical late-to-the-party fashion). In case you were wondering anything about my food habits, here's some insight!

In all seriousness, this last year was nothing short of epic. I used to be afraid of entering this decade of life, but each year continues to give and for that, I'm thankful.

Onward, ho!

Also, let me know if you share any of my quirky food habits 😉
🇮🇸 Day 2 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerar 🇮🇸 Day 2 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerary!

Our second day was all about exploring Iceland's capital city - Reykjavik! This is such a chill city that's worth exploring, especially for the food scene. I see a lot of people hit the ground running with their road trips right away, but I think easing into things with Reykjavik for a day was a good idea for us.

Here's everything we did on our second day in Iceland:

- Took the most incredible food tour with @reykjavikfoodwalk. My favorite things we ate were the fried lobster tacos and seafood soup at @sjavargrillid!

- We did try the notorious fermented shark (it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be) and a shot of Black Death (the original Brennivin aquavit) which wasn't bad either.

- Explored more of Reykjavik, including more mural spotting and hitting up happy hour spots and spending all our money on cocktails and beer (Iceland is pricey!).

- We visited a Big Lebowski-themed bar @lebowskibar! I love me a good themed restaurant or bar. I had my very first White Russian here and it was actually quite good.

- We had to stop by BrewDog Reykjavik which sadly closed permanently later in the week. We visit one wherever we travel to that has one for nostalgia purposes (and their beer is pretty good).

- Our night ended at the Posthus Food Hall (recommended by our food tour guide), where we had a lamb birria burrito and some bulgogi buns.

If you don't know, I am sort of a burrito addict - it's my favorite food. I will try one in any country I see one - good or bad (this one was actually really delicious!).

What do you think about spending a day in Reykjavik before venturing out to see all the nature sights?

Icelandic Lamb Hotdogs 🌭 Lamb is a big part of Ic Icelandic Lamb Hotdogs 🌭

Lamb is a big part of Iceland's food culture! You have to try at least one lamb hotdog when you visit. We had our first one at Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur in Downtown Reykjavik while on our food tour with @reykjavikfood and I think they're a great, affordable snack!

Would you travel to Iceland to eat hotdogs?

🇮🇸 Day 1 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerar 🇮🇸 Day 1 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerary!

Curious about what to do on the day you land in Iceland? Here's what we did!

- Arrived to KEF airport around 9:30 a.m., hit up the duty free shop for some Brennivín, and picked up our rental car
- Stopped at @kokulistbakari for pastries to hold us over for a bit (amazing btw)
- Soaked in the Blue Lagoon (since it's not too far from the airport). It's relaxing but also helps keep you awake.
- Checked into our hotel @canopyreykjavik
- Went to happy hour at @bastard_reykjavik (the pretzel and cheese is a must!)
- Walked around the city to keep us awake and hit famous spots like the Skólavörðustígur rainbow road, Hallgrímskirkja church, and the Sun Voyager
- Had a nice dinner at @fiskfelagid

Not a bad start!

A moment for one of the best meals we had in Icela A moment for one of the best meals we had in Iceland at @fiskfelagid in Reykjavik!

This dinner was entirely seafood based; however, they do have some meat options on the menu if you aren't into things of the sea.

The ambiance in the restaurant was dark and cozy - perfect for an intimate dinner. Service = impeccable. Presentation of all of the dishes was perfection. Sauces were rich in flavor. Everything was so well done!

I had never had arctic char before, and that's the dish that drew me in. The fish was super delicate and smoky - really unique and incredibly tasty. My favorite dish, however, turned out to be the fishcakes! In fact, it's one of the top things we ate during our week in Iceland.

Highly, highly recommend putting this on your Iceland foodie bucket list!

@braudogco has officially ruined all other cinnamo @braudogco has officially ruined all other cinnamon rolls for me 😂 Now I have to get on a flight back to Iceland to fulfill my cravings! Or, try my hand at baking using their recipe which will probably be hopeless.

Also, I tried my best pronouncing things in Icelandic properly but still probably butchered that (how did I do?).

XO- Forever dreaming of cinnamon rolls.

*Edit: I may have mixed up the original cinnamon roll with the vanilla. Either way, both are incredible.
