Must-Try Potato Dishes in Boise, Idaho

If you’re looking to try Boise’s best potato dishes, check out this list of what I think are must-try potato dishes in Boise!

Call me a sucker for clichés, but here’s one that you simply cannot pass up: you’ve got to eat potatoes when in Idaho!

When we visited the Boise area, I scoured menus hoping to find some potato-focused dishes. A lot of those menus simply included fries. And don’t get me wrong, fries are certainly an excellent way to celebrate the potato (and I even include some on this list too). But, there are many other ways/forms to enjoy this humble root vegetable.

Here’s a list of what I think are must-try potato dishes in the Boise, Idaho area!

Patatas Diablo at Diablo Saloon

On the menu at Diablo Saloon in Downtown Boise, you’ll find perfectly crispy Papas Diablo. We had our potatoes on a platter sort of like a take on Spanish patatas bravas, but their current offering is their Papas Diablo tacos!

These potatoes are perfectly salted and have a nice touch of acid. They are definitely a worthy dish to fill up on.

Sidewinder Fries at The Orchard House

I can’t say that I’ve ever had sidewinder fries before, but I’m glad I got to try them at The Orchard House when we were doing our self-guided Sunnyslope wine tour! These fries have a unique twisted appearance, and are crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside.

The Orchard House does a great job with their seasoning, and these fries are especially delicious with the jalapeno ketchup they have set out on the tables!

*The Orchard House is actually in Caldwell outside of Boise. Since we visited on our trip to the Boise area, I’m including it here.

Stuffed Potatoes & Sliders at Potato Boi

Potato Boi is a gem of a food truck solely dedicated to the humble tater. They’ve got all kinds of varieties of stuffed baked potatoes to choose from! Our favorite, the delicious “Oinker,” is topped with pulled pork and double bacon, smothered in BOI Cheese sauce, and finished with green onion. I gotta say, it’s definitely that cheese sauce that steals the show. It deserves to be poured over every baked potato!

I also recommend getting a couple of their sliders. I thought they were even better than the baked potatoes! Savory little ground beef patties are sandwiched between two potato “buns” and topped with mustard and pickles – two of my must-have burger toppings. The potato “buns” were nice and crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. Such a winning combination!

NOTE: It looks like Potato Boi is in process of selling their business. Be sure to check their social media to see when they might pop up!

Poutine at Bittercreek Ale House

House-made fries. Hot gravy. Cheese curds. Braised pork. Need I say more? Poutine is one of those dishes that screams savory comfort food, and makes the perfect companion to an ice cold beer.

Bittercreek Ale House in Downtown Boise does this Canadian dish justice. Their rich gravy, braised pork, and gooey cheese curds smother the crispy, salty fries and you’ll have no regrets finishing every last bite of this dish.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes at Barbacoa Grill

Barbacoa Grill is the ideal spot in Boise for a special night out and diners are often drawn to the restaurant to try one of their many cuts of steak!

Side choices are aplenty, but the garlic mashed potatoes at Barbacoa hold their own against the other options. It’s hard to go wrong with a good garlic mash, especially when paired with a hot rock steak.

Wish List

Here are a few additional potato dishes that I’d love to add to my list next time we’re in Boise!

  • Ice Cream Potato at Westside Drive In – Ice cream shaped and made to look like an actual baked potato!
  • Fries at Boise Fry Company – At Boise Fry Co., you get to choose your potato (Russet, Gold, Yam, Purple, etc.) as well as the type of cut (Regular, Homestyle, Curly, etc.). It’s the perfect way to discover your next favorite fry!
  • Potato Ale at Bear Island Brewing – Beer and potatoes? Indeed! Bear Island is celebrating two great things in one glass with this unique IPA.
  • Spud & Chorizo Tacos at Madre Taqueria – Chorizo and potato tacos are some of my favorite and I’d love to get my hands on those from Madre Taqueria.

Are there any other must-try potato dishes in Boise that we should add to our list? Drop a comment below and let me know!

📍Vecina - Phoenix, AZ Found my favorite restauran 📍Vecina - Phoenix, AZ

Found my favorite restaurant in Phoenix!

This spot is a serious gem. Everything we ate was expertly crafted with incredible, bold flavors!

If I could return and eat one dish over and over again, it would be the short rib with white bean puree and probably the best flour tortilla I've ever had. 10/10, no notes.

A close second - the gambas al ajillo. The shrimp were bathed in a spicy paprika garlic butter that you'll want to soak up every last bit of with their delicious bread.

I'm already planning to visit Phoenix next year for spring training mostly because I want to eat here again!

🇮🇸 Iceland foodie experiences not to miss!!! Thes 🇮🇸 Iceland foodie experiences not to miss!!!

These are all of my favorite Iceland food & drink experiences. Save this for your trip to Iceland!

The food in Iceland kind of blew me away. I know a lot of people travel to Iceland for the scenery (because it's absolutely incredible), but I do think you should try and incorporate some of these food experiences too.

Iceland may not be the most budget friendly when it comes to eating out, but the food is definitely worth the splurge in my opinion.

What do you think you would add to your itinerary?

🇮🇸 Day 6 & 7 of a one-week Iceland itinerary! Fin 🇮🇸 Day 6 & 7 of a one-week Iceland itinerary!

Finishing up my little Iceland itinerary series, this is how we spent our final two days in the country.

We drove from Vik on the south coast and did the popular Golden Circle, making stops at Kerid Crater, Friðheimar Tomato farm, Gullfoss, and Thingvellir National Park. In between all that, I got to pet and feed Icelandic horses and had some of the best ice cream ever at a dairy farm.

The Golden Circle was probably the most crowded of all the routes we did in Iceland, probably because it's the easiest day trip from Reykjavik. Still loved every moment though!

Our last dinner was at Forrettabarinn aka The Appetizer Bar, where dishes are small plates, encouraging you to try lots of different items (even horse 😳). All of the food was delicious, as it was everywhere we went in Iceland.

We had a leisurely final day, strolling around Reykjavik looking for souvenirs and had a delicious final Icelandic lunch (couldn't resist one more round of Plokkfiskur.

And that's the end of our magical adventure to probably my favorite place in the world. I can't wait to be back!
🇮🇸 Day 5 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerar 🇮🇸 Day 5 in Iceland of a one-week Iceland itinerary!

This was probably my favorite day of our week in Iceland. Seeing the landscape of the South Coast is something else, from canyons and waterfalls to moss-covered lava fields and even a glacier lake! Incredible is all I can say.

We ended our day back in Vik to watch the sunset and chowed down on black crust pizza 🍕

Everything I ate and drank in Iceland - Part 2! I Everything I ate and drank in Iceland - Part 2!

I ate so many different things in Iceland, I needed to break it up in three parts 😂

Iceland has such a varied food scene, from international dishes to Icelandic specialties like plokkfiskur (kind of like a fish pie/casserole), which was absolutely delicious.

And those cinnamon rolls...I am still dreaming about them!

Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸 Our third day in Iceland was Day 3 in Iceland! 🇮🇸

Our third day in Iceland was a day trip to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula - aka "Iceland in Miniature." It was very windy and cold here but much less busy than the routes of the South Coast! We saw such a variety of landscapes on the peninsula, though I wish we would have had a little bit more daylight to add more stops.

Back in Reykjavik for the evening, we had dinner and then went on a successful Northern Lights chase!

It was a long day but awesome!
